                             Over 60s invite the Congregation to Claire Willis’s                                     Presentation “Opening to Grief”

Sunday, December 6, 4:00 – 5:00 pm.

Claire will share her work and Q/A aspects of her newly published book Opening to Grief: Finding Your Way From Loss to Peace. She will invite us to be with grief in all its depths and to find unique ways to peace, balance, and acceptance.Her work encourages us to begin wherever we are and to offer ourselves kindness at a time of loss and suffering. Claire’s work addresses finding comfort and inspiration as well as profound practices anchored in mindfulness and meditation with the recognition that grief and love are intertwined.
Claire Willis, LICSW, a FUUSN member has worked in the fields of oncology and bereavement for more than 20 years.  Co-founder of the Boston nonprofit Facing Cancer Together, she has lead bereavement, end-of-life, support and therapeutic writing groups. She has co-taught Spiritual Resources for Healing the Mind, Body, and Soul at the former Andover Newton Theological School and she is the co-founder of Facing Cancer Together. Claire maintains a private practice in Brookline, Massachusetts. As a lay chaplain ordained by Joan Halifax at Upaya Zen Center in Santa Fe, she focuses on contemplative practices for end-of-life care.

Movie Group: Connie Stubbs – Coordinator; co- coordinators: Lynne Karlson, Thalia Verros. 20 people with an additional 14, have now indicated interest. Participants can watch film at home through the Newton Free Library. The group has currently decided on two films to watch and a zoom date for Thursday, Nov.13th at 7 pm. Gardening Group: Coordinator: Alta Hodges. Register now with Alta at paalta@yahoo.com. She wishes to send out resources this fall/winter to help with planning and questions for the spring towards a virtual meeting in the spring to initiate gardening activities.

Book Group will be reconsidering next book choice, dates and times as they finish up 6 sessions on Nov. 22nd discussing Isabel Wilkerson’s book Caste. Register with Jane Brown at gbjonah@aol.com and keep posted for future book plans.
