Everyday Chemicals that Disrupt Your Body’s
Presenter: Julie Brody, Ph..D., Executive Director
Senior Scientist Silent Spring Institute, , Newton, MA.

Zoom Presentation: 4:00 – 5:30 pm
All Congregates invited!
You might think that companies have to test ingredients for safety before they put them into everyday products, but NO – not in the U.S. Our “innocent until proven guilty” approach means that cleaners, personal care products, toys, furniture, clothing, and more can contain chemicals that disrupt your body’s hormones.
Hormones are the signaling system that controls processes throughout your body, including your brain, sleep, weight, happiness… and pathways to cancers. Julie will include in her talk Silent Spring Institute’s research on chemicals linked to breast cancer and other health concerns and how to avoid them. Her favorite resources for finding healthy choices are the smartphone app Detox Me and the Chrome extension Clearya.

Julie Brody has been a member of FUUSN for more than 35 years and raised two young men in our congregation. She is the Director of Silent Spring Institute, a scientific research organization that studies environmental chemicals and women’s health, with a particular focus on breast cancer. The Institute was founded in 1994 by breast cancer activists in response to the higher incidence of breast cancer on Cape Cod. Julie is the author of the most comprehensive scientific review of epidemiological studies of environmental chemicals and breast cancer
