Organize A Local Event
UU Congregations around the country have had great success with a variety of events to raise public awareness of modern slavery. Simply telling others in your community about its existence is an important first step. Only when the general public knows that slavery exists can the battle be won. For help in setting up some local events, call or e-mail Barney Freiberg-Dale at (617) 244 0664 or freibergdale@rcn.com Here are some ideas that have worked well in other congregations:
>> A regular Sunday service devoted to slavery.
>> A guest speaker, such as a slavery expert, a former slave owner, or a former slave.
>> Showing the Emmy award winning video Slavery: A Global Investigation by Brian Woods and Kate Blewett.
>> Holding a vigil.
>> Having a panel discussion.
